The ASF was set up in 2019 by a group of industry professionals from the inflight sector who could see firsthand, the increasing problem of cabin and catering waste.
Since then they have established the Cabin Waste Composition Audit programme (CWCA) which is the first and only industry standard methodology for the segregation, measuring and recording of all cabin and catering waste. The CWCA programme is endorsed by IATA and recognises the need for standardisation and consistency across the tracking and reporting of inflight waste.
The data from the CWCA programme is helping airline clients and other key stakeholders understand inbound cabin waste levels and composition. Using the ASF’s unique, bespoke data tools the CWCA programme is ongoing and is collecting rich data that is helping airlines identify key areas for improvements that will result in significant reduction in waste and costs.
At a sector level, the anonymised and aggregated data will support IATA in their efforts to harmonise global regulation for SUP and waste management.
